Plain language group
Any information produced for the public must be written in plain language that is easy to understand.
The Plain Language Group is made up of volunteers who read our literature including leaflets, documents and website text to make sure it is easily understood.
To find out more about becoming a volunteer with this group contact the PCT’s Patient and Public Involvement team on 0800 028 3693 or email ppi@nottspct.nhs.uk
Volunteering for the plain language group
- Does gobbledygook and jargon annoy you?
- Do you like public information to be clear and easy to understand?
- Do you have time to spare?
If so, you might like to join Nottinghamshire Plain Language Group.
We welcome anyone who is interested in improving the quality of public information for all members of the community.
No special skills or qualifications are needed. However, please tell us if you require information in another language. You may be asked to read some information in translation.
What will I have to do?
- Read drafts of information that are sent to you.
- Comment on how clear and understandable the information is. Please be honest and constructive.
You are not expected to re-write any information in plain language – that’s the job of the person who wrote it in the first place.
Is there any guidance to help me?
We send you a checklist of things to consider with every document you are sent. Some people find this helpful and write their comments on it. Others prefer to make notes directly on the documents. Either way is fine.
The co-ordinators are also there to support you so if you have any questions you can always contact them.
