Patient Transport

Access to patient transport

New Service Provider for Patient Transport

From 1 July, patients in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire who are eligible for free NHS transport to their hospital appointments will be travelling with a new non-emergency patient transport service provider, Arriva Transport Solutions.

If you already use this service there is no need to worry - the same high service standards will continue, and the service will always be free for those patients that are in genuine need of it.

From 1 July there will also be several improvements in the service, including:

  • A brand new fleet of over 130 ambulances and cars
  • A newly designed staff uniform clearly identifying the driver and members of the patient transport team
  • The introduction of a 'Book when Ready' booking system for return journeys, reducing unnecessary waiting times for patients when an appointment finishes early or late.

The patient transport service is not for everyone. Long standing national guidance on who is eligible for free transport will be applied fairly and firmly to help ensure that only patients with a genuine medical need receive the NHS funded service. They are assessed using a set of national criteria.

If you think you may be eligible for this service, please talk to your GP or healthcare professional. To find out more, please read our patient information leaflet and Department of Health eligibility criteria.
