Arts on Prescription
The programme is for people 16+ who are experiencing stress, depression or anxiety and other mental health issues.
Each session is run by an experienced artist. Workshops aim to help participants regain their confidence through the arts, learn about art and meet others whilst involved in a positive activity.
The project provides weekly sessions including visual arts, creative writing, batik, photography, textiles, clay work, print making, sculpture and many more other arts related activities.
No previous experience of Art is necessary.
The Arts on Prescription programme offers a supported safe environment for participants, enabling them to benefit by exploring their own creative freedom whilst learning from professional artists. Arts on Prescription encourages personal development, confidence building and self expression.
The programme is run by City Arts, a local organisation supported by Nottinghamshire County and Nottingham City Primary Care Trusts. Sessions are held at Park House Health and Social Care Centre in Carlton.
Comments from previous participants include:
“It makes you feel more positive about yourself and you get to meet people as well. When you’ve got depression everything is in greys and blacks but this has brought me into contact with colour. I’m thinking I could get a job in the arts at the end of this, as a photographer maybe.”
“I don’t work at the moment and I just used to do nothing, but coming here makes me more relaxed. I used to do art but later lost interest. This has got me back into it and has given me new experiences.”
Referrals to the programme can be done via a professional. This could include a GP, occupational therapist, social worker, psychiatrist, nurse, counsellor or a support worker in the voluntary and community sector
