Mental health

There is no health without mental health

Both physical and mental wellbeing are an inseparable part of good health. Having good mental health gives us the ability to function well in life, develop positive relationships with others, and to fulfil our emotional and spiritual needs. It helps us to deal with the challenges and difficulties which we are faced with.

Nottinghamshire Primary Care Trust is working alongside other organisations to promote understanding and awareness of mental health issues and to put mental wellbeing at the heart of achieving good health for all.

Take Time for Your Mind

Stress and uncertainty can affect us all in different ways. Although it may not be a priority, looking after your own mental wellbeing is essential to both working and living well. The current credit crunch makes this message even more timely.

Making small changes in our every day lives can help improve our mental health. A good positive mental attitude and support network of work colleagues, family and friends can help people to cope during times of economic uncertainty.

A few simple measures can help us to look after ourselves and our mental wellbeing.

Talk about your feelings whether to colleagues, family or friends dont bottle things up or let worries build up. Ask for help if you need it.
  • Take regular breaks at work
  • Keep active exercise not only helps to keep your body in tip top shape, but it is a great mood booster too.
  • Eat well Improve your mood by eating healthily. Eat regular meals throughout the day and cut down on stimulants like caffeine, alcohol and nicotine to help keep blood sugar levels constant and to avoid mood swings.
  • Take time out to relax and plan time for yourself.
  • Think about others - Helping others can be a really positive experience and can help make our own troubles seem less daunting. Volunteering is a great way to help out, boost confidence and meet new people.
