What services are available?

 

In line with national requirements, all people who are newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes should have the opportunity to attend a programme of structured education. This will provide them with the knowledge and skills to enable them to manage their condition better.

 

Patients living within the areas of Ashfield, Mansfield District and Newark & Sherwood have the chance to attend a course in their area called ‘TIIDE’ (Type 2 Diabetes Education).

 

The course is designed to support people who have been diagnosed with diabetes recently; however those who have been diagnosed with Diabetes for a while who feel they might benefit are also welcome to attend.

 

Sessions are run in small groups, with other people that have Type 2 Diabetes, so there is opportunity to share experiences and ask questions throughout the course.

 

The Type 2 Diabetes Education course does not replace the advice and guidance given by your GP practice; it is part of your overall treatment. In addition your practice may offer other group or individual education.

 

How can I access these services?

 

Patients are referred onto the course by their doctor or practice nurse at their GP practice.

The courses take place at a number of local venues across Ashfield, Mansfield District and Newark & Sherwood.

 

When are the services available?

 

Each course runs over four consecutive weeks, with one session each week. They take place in the morning or afternoon, and each session usually lasts about 2 hours.
