Diabetic Retinopathy Services in Greater Nottingham

What services are available?

In line with national requirements, every person with Diabetes has the opportunity to have their eyes screened annually for Diabetic Retinopathy, an eye condition related to Diabetes. An explanation of this condition can be found in the leaflet on this website.

How can I access these services?

The diabetic retinopathy screening service is provided by Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, and is based at the Queen’s Medical Centre campus.

People with Diabetes should receive a letter every 12 months, giving them an appointment to attend for their screening.
If for any reason you do not receive a letter, please contact the staff at the screening service to advise them.

Where are the services provided?

Screening services are provided from several sites across Greater Nottingham, covering the areas of Gedling, Broxtowe & Hucknall, Rushcliffe and Nottingham city centre.

There are some fixed sites, and some mobile sites which rotate around different health centres over a period of time. More information about the sites where services are provided can be found on the website link for the screening services.

There is a free bus link running between the Queen’s Medical Centre and City hospital campuses, and the bus stops at the tram terminus where there is free parking.

When are the services available?

Diabetic Retinopathy Screening is generally provided during normal working hours at the various sites, using an appointment system.
Your appointment letter will give details of where and when you should go for you screening appointment.

However, if for any reason you cannot attend on that day, time or venue, please contact the screening service to let them know so that your appointment time can be given to someone else who needs it. The staff will then be able to rearrange your appointment for a more convenient time or place.
