Healthy Schools Enhancement Model (HSEM)

Nationally, the expectation from the Health in Schools Board is that by 2020 all schools will be Enhanced Healthy Schools. All the work that schools have undertaken to meet National Healthy School Status will contribute to the new Enhanced Model, with the existing criteria becoming the starting point on which schools will build

With a new Inspection framework from September 2009 (Oftsed), in which schools will be looked at for their contribution to pupil’s EHWB, statutory PSHE on the horizon and White Paper – Your Child, Your School’s, Our Future: building a 21stC schools system, HSEM is well placed to support schools in meeting local and national priorities, supportive of the Children and Young People’s agenda. The new model further embeds health in education and government policy developments for Children and Young People.

The online tools and associated website pages to support HSEM will go live after October 2009 half-term and schools will be able to engage with the Enhancement Model then. We aim to officially launch the local programme in early January, following training associated with the online tools.
